For Job Seekers

Compress a PDF to 100KB

A 100KB ceiling is one of the tightest limits you will meet in the wild — government job boards, some university exam-registration portals, and older application systems set it. At that size there is essentially no room for images: you are fitting text and page structure and little else, so the only preset with a realistic chance is Maximum (96 DPI, 0.50 JPEG quality).

Be realistic about what will and will not get there. A one- or two-page, mostly-text document — a typed cover letter, a plain certificate, a short form — can usually be pushed to around 100KB. A scanned page, a photo of a document, or anything with a signature block rendered as an image will almost always land well above it once re-encoded, because a readable page image has a size floor. Compression rebuilds every page as a flattened image, so the output also loses selectable and searchable text.

If Maximum leaves you over the limit, stop turning the quality down and reduce what is in the file instead. Submit only the page the portal actually asks for by pulling it out with Extract Pages, or if the source is a photo of a document, run it through PDF OCR and export a text-based PDF, which compresses far smaller than a page image.

How to handle this workflow

1. Open the tool

Launch the PDF Compressor and load your document. No account creation or software installation is required.

2. Process in your browser

Select your preferred settings. Core processing runs on your device, keeping your documents confidential and private.

3. Preview and download

Inspect the output to confirm page quality and formatting, then save your updated PDF directly to your device.

Is 100KB a realistic size for a PDF?

Only for a short, mostly-text document. A one- or two-page typed letter or plain certificate can usually reach ~100KB on the Maximum preset. A scanned or image-based page has a legibility floor and will typically stay well above 100KB — extract just the required page, or OCR a scan into a text-based PDF, instead of compressing harder.
