What is the difference between an electronic signature and a certificate-based digital signature?

An electronic signature here means a visual mark you draw, type, or upload onto a page. A certificate-based digital signature is a cryptographic identity check. A visual mark does not verify who signed, does not issue a certificate, and does not prove that the mark meets a recipient’s legal or compliance rule.
